Did you know that approximately 50% of the population makes resolutions each New Year and two of the top ones are weight loss and exercise? Unfortunately, 92% of resolutions fail. We make too many of them, and they are often unrealistic. A better way to make changes in our lifestyle is to set realistic, specific goals and to take small steps.
Join me this year in adding 12 healthy habits to you life, one month at a time. By focusing on one, clear habit a month you can create a healthier you by the time we ring in 2016! I’ll post January’s habit tomorrow night and the rest on the first Monday of the month.
Put your hand up if you’ve heard that you should drink 8 glasses of water a day! This is fairly conventional wisdom, even if its origins are not known.
We NEED water…our bodies are made up of over 70% of it. But the amount is not one size fits all. A better goal is to drink HALF YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES. Even this may vary depending on the intensity of your activity level, what types of food you eat, and the season.
For the rest of this month up your intake of water and learn to listen to your body — thirst is often mistaken for hunger.
Why should we do this?
–Boosts your immune system.
–Keeps your kidneys healthy.
–Flushes out toxins through sweat and urine.
–Gives you more energy and focus (your brain is 75% water).
–Improves your skin and can make you look and feel younger (who doesn’t want glowing skin and less wrinkles?).
–Improves circulation and prevents muscle cramps.
–Helps regulate body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure.
How many cups are you currently drinking? What is your daily goal for the rest of January? Post in the comments — I want to know!
I aim to drink 1 gallon a day. Check out my youtube video on how I get it all in:
